Open Book Community Member Spotlight: Amanda Hines

Updated: Jul 26

Periodically, I'll be putting a spotlight on one of the members of The Open Book Community. This month, I'm thrilled to feature Amanda Hines.

Amanda is based in Michigan and has been a member for two years. She is currently sharing her love of writing through episodic fiction by way of Substack! In addition to being a fiction writer, Amanda is a wife, mother and Navy Veteran who loves to read, camp, travel, diamond dot and crochet.

Here's a bit of what Amanda recently shared about their writing process and experience in The Open Book Community! 👇👇

What do you love about writing?

I'm captivated by the infinite possibilities and swelling revelation of storytelling. I love creating complex character who work through emotions we often struggle with.

What is one of your writing challenges?

I often struggle with whether I'm good enough to be considered a writer or if anyone will care about the stories and characters I create.

What's a piece of advice you would give to other writers or people who feel like writing "imposters"?

Join a writing community!!! You need a community who 'red pens' the negative thoughts and helps you see the value in your talent.

What do you value most about The Open Book Community?

I can't say enough about the support, encouragement and inspiration of this community. I would not have had the confidence to share my writing if it were not for Kim and The Open Book Community. Their love drowns out the incessant shouting of imposter syndrome.

Follow Amanda (and the latest from her main character, Lark)!

A big thank you to you, Amanda, for sharing your writing experiences with us! Thank you for being a part of our community. 💗
