How's your writing going lately?
Whether it's more social posts, that peer-reviewed article idea, the book concept that's been swirling... maybe you're feeling in a bit of a slump (like me).
[Candidly, I haven’t written much lately.]
For those of us that consider ourselves “writers,” the admission of non-writing time can be fraught.
It’s easy to attach the good/bad binary to our writing life.
Writing? Good.
Not writing? Bad.
See? Super simple.
(Except, of course, it’s not.)
I often need to remind myself of this truth: Even when we’re not writing, we’re still writing.
When we’re not writing, we’re…
…living the experiences that will lead to beautiful or tragic stories.
…processing the feelings that will lead to relatable or curiosity-piquing words.
…learning the lessons and storing the information that will lead to "a-has" and "me-toos" and "oh-yeahs" and "is-that-sos."
Our pen may not be moving across the page, but we’re still writers...
...we’re just writers in a different season, on a different path, at a different stage of the process.
I'm here to tell you that if you don’t write for 10 hours or 10 days or 10 months or 10 years, your “writer card" will not be revoked. (Speaking from experience...)
The blank page and blinking cursor are waiting for all of us, on our own time.
Maybe today is the day for you to dabble and see what happens.
Or maybe not.
You're still a writer either way.
